Sending USDT to the wrong network (e.g., sending BEP20 USDT to an ERC20 address) is a nightmare scenario. But is your money gone forever? Not necessarily. This guide explains how to recover funds sent to EVM-compatible chains.
Scenario 1: Sent to Your Own Wallet (MetaMask/Trust)
Good news! Since Ethereum, BSC, Polygon, and Avalanche share the same address format (0x…), you likely possess the private keys for the destination address on the other network.
- Open your wallet (e.g., MetaMask).
- Add the network you accidentally used (e.g., add BSC if you sent BEP20).
- Add the USDT custom token address for that network.
- Your funds should appear!
Scenario 2: Sent to an Exchange (Binance/Coinbase)
This is harder. You don’t own the keys. You must contact customer support. Some exchanges (like Binance) have a recovery tool for a fee, but others may not help.
